The ASEAN AI Awareness Certification Programme is a short, high-impact certification session designed to build foundational AI literacy among ASEAN engineers, engineering technologists, and professionals. Through a focused learning segment and quick assessment, the programme equips participants with practical understanding of what AI is, where it is applied in industry and the public sector, and what “responsible AI” means in real-world use. It supports ASEAN’s broader digital transformation agenda by strengthening regional AI readiness, encouraging ethical adoption, and improving confidence in applying AI concepts to productivity, decision-making, and innovation across diverse engineering and organisational contexts.

Speaker Profile:

Ir. Ts. Prof. Dr. Tan Chee Fai is an authority in engineering, recognized for his strategic expertise in digital transformation, smart manufacturing, industrial artificial intelligence, and robotics. With over 25 years of distinguished impact in the field, he brings unmatched experience in aligning technological advancement with business growth, innovation, and productivity enhancement.

He currently serves as Deputy the Vice President of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), AER Country Registrar (Malaysia), and Chair of ASEAN Engineering Inspector for Manufacturing where he spearheads ASEAN initiatives to accelerate smart industry adoption and AI capacity building across engineering sectors. As an Executive Committee Member of the Machinery & Engineering Industries Federation (MEIF), Prof. Tan actively contributes to the development of policy frameworks that strengthen industrial competitiveness and innovation. He is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Kuala Lumpur University of Science & Technology (KLUST)
